BEITEN BURKHARDT is one of the leading commercial law firms in Germany and advises on all areas of commercial law.
Our roots are in Munich, but we have offices in Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Berlin and Hamburg, in addition to Belgium, Russia and China. We also operate a number of “desks” with specialist expertise in bilateral economic relations. Our business partners include multinational groups, companies listed on the stock exchange and medium-sized companies, as well as foundations and the public sector.
What distinguishes us is the personal and dependable advice we offer. As a client, you will find more than just 300 strategically thinking lawyers, tax advisors and auditors. You will find 300 dedicated partners, who have a special understanding of your matter and will work with you to develop individual solutions.
Law Firm Profile
As one of the leading commercial law firms in Germany, we are aware of the significant impact that our legal advice can have. We therefore work to ensure responsible actions – towards our clients, the community and our employees in particular.
It is important to us that we provide a workplace environment in which every individual feels not just challenged, but supported and respected. As a major international law firm with offices in Germany, Belgium, China and Russia, we are regularly in contact with people from many different cultures. We also value the diversity of our employees. It is therefore important to us that we give every person the same opportunities – regardless of their nationality, ethnicity, sex, religion or ideology, disability, age, sexual orientation or identity. We have been using gender-neutral employment ads for quite a while now (“male, female, X”). Objective, professional criteria are the basis for both personnel selections and promotions. Should an employee nevertheless feel that they were subject to discrimination, our equal opportunity officers are available as trusted contacts.
We regularly choose to make our associates up to partner. Training and professional development is therefore an essential part of our HR work. That is why we established a first-class, comprehensive, professional development programme for all of our lawyers: the BB Academy. Each associate has a mentor, who can answer career questions and provides regular feedback. Other experienced colleagues will also provide new associates with feedback in order to encourage their development. The significant freedoms given to our junior colleagues, such as direct contact to clients at an early stage, are a fundamental element of our success.
Happy employees are key to success. We take advantage of the opportunities provided by digitalisation to offer each individual greater flexibility. This helps facilitate a good work-life balance and lets our team members reconcile family with working life. Partners, too can work part-time or from a home office should they wish, and adjust working times to suit their personal circumstances. We even changed our articles of association in order to make part-time models applicable to equity partners. We view this as an important step in clearing the way to partner, particularly for women.
Environment and community
Environmental protection and the conservation of resources are firmly anchored in the daily life of our firm. We endeavour to work in an environmentally friendly fashion at all times, for example, by considering our CO2 emissions in work trips or paper and energy usage, and we do our best to keep these to a minimum. Of course, we also fulfil our social responsibility. Our motto in this respect is “think globally, act locally”: our offices regularly support charitable organisations in their area.
“We are proud to be able to provide you with first-rate advice on all aspects of commercial law – comprehensively, with confidence and with a high level of individuality”Philipp Cotta, Managing Partner
We’re there, where you are.
Do you want to expand into the USA? Do you need advice on Chinese tax practices? Are you a Russian investor planning to invest in Germany? No matter where your path leads, we can support you in this increasingly global business world.
From the very beginning, our focus has been international: only two years after the firm was established, we became the first German law firm to open an office in Moscow and have had an office in China since 1995. Our international strategy has three pillars. The first pillar is our nine locations, where we have our own offices. Thanks to our local market knowledge, we can provide outstanding support to our clients for all their legal needs. The second pillar is our eight specialised centres of expertise or “desks” for bilateral commercial relations. Our experts are not necessary located in the region in question. Instead, they bring their deep knowledge of that region to the fore when providing tailored advice to German and international clients. Finally, the third pillar is our worldwide network of partner firms, with whom we have worked together successfully and confidently over a number of years. We have connections in all European countries and numerous other jurisdictions and regions throughout the world.

OUR EXPERTISE CENTRES FOR BILATERAL COMMERCIAL RELATIONS:
We have established special centres of expertise for certain countries and regions. The experts on these teams provide German and international clients with targeted advice on market entry, projects, investments and other business activities, sometimes from within those countries and sometimes from our other offices.
BEITEN BURKHARDT does not belong to any formal network. Instead we have developed our own global network from long-term, successful relationships in numerous jurisdictions and regions. This is based on mutual confidence and common values and quality standards. Regardless of where you are in the world or where you wish to go, whether to North, Middle or South America, Northern or Western Europe, whether to Eastern Europe, Russia or Asia, to the Middle East, Africa, or to Oceania or somewhere in the Pacific – feel free to approach us!
